Oil Spill In Queensland
The Advantages of the Oil Spill In Queensland
The idea that anything positive can become of the environmental disaster in Queensland sounds ludicrous. But the disaster highlights certain deficiencies in society.
It reveals that the proper infrastructure is not in place to deal with the immense crisis. Specifically local organizational programs need to be in place to coordinate clean up efforts.
New technology needs to be developed for widespread containment.
Government institutions need to have stronger warning systems in place for faster reaction.
The disaster also highlights inefficiencies in environmental policies. There is lax standard for ship captain qualification. Corporate regulation of standard marine practice and protocol needs to be reviewed. Standards (or lack there of) for ship maintenance and oil storage were a leading factor in the disaster, and need stronger regulation.
The emergency highlights social problems that might have been ignored in a climate of economic woes. The timing is vital occurring before an important election. With no strong environmental leaders in either party, it places important in having more than two major voices within the political system.
Hopefully, the devastating event will change broken government systems, and nothing like this will ever happen again.
