WWOOF: ‘What to Take With You’
WWOOF membership ready and itching to go? A little preparation goes a long way; here is a brief checklist of items and things to take with you on your adventure…
Sleeping bags - Generally accommodation is in a spare room within the family home, and although bedding is made available, bringing a sleeping bag is a sensible ‘safety blanket’. For the particularly keen, outdoor tenting is also an option at some WWOOF sites. Check when booking.
It is recommended visitors kit up with outdoor-ready items such as waterproof boots and gloves, sunglasses and a hat. Depending on the location, work can be anywhere in a house, garden or farm; by bringing suitable protective clothing, temperamental weather and conditions can be anticipated and injury prevented (from cuts, sprained ankles, bites etc.).
WWOOF hosts supply necessary tools for the variety of tasks, cleaning and kitchen and washing facilities, though visitors are encouraged to take a spare flashlight, and even favourite books and music to share.
Above all, bring a sense of humour, goodwill and adventure! You are here to learn, contribute and have fun, and with a little common sense and respect for your hosts’ and fellow Wwoofers’ privacy and the respectful use of facilities, you’re halfway there.
