Wwoofing in Australia
When you sign up for WWOOFing you are in store for many unique activities and experiences, including:
- Daily meals, often prepared and consumed with the host family. A great way to get to know the organic lifestyle better!
- First hand experience of sustainable growing and farming methods by helping your hosts with organic growing, bio-dynamics and permaculture.
- The opportunity to learn about life in the host country by living and working, alongside local family and like-minded communities.
Within Australia there are about 1,500 hosts to choose from, most of whom share a similar belief and passion for simple, sustainable living, like other hosts the world over. Many are involved in permaculture and about 20% use bio-dynamic growing methods in their pursuit of this organic lifestyle goal.
Volunteers are given the choice between staying at real world commercial farms or more alternative options like co-op communities and communal living groups.
There is also an interesting array of non-farm hosts, including schools and nurseries, to people operating home businesses such as guest houses and writers.
The volunteer experience will allow you to participate in a wide variety of tasks, from gardening and mulching to wall-building and feeding animals, and everything inbetween.
As the family living arrangement is casual, there is a sense of freedom, with no fixed hours, although in the interests of productivity, four to six hours per day is considered a fair exchange.
So if you're prepared for a new experience and new perspective on modern (sustainable) living, make WWOOF Australia your next stop!
